Out of curiosity, why does it often take *seconds* to obtain network configuration via DHCP quand le CPU is capable of processing millions of operations per second et ping to le router takes a couple of milliseconds?
In mon home environment avec one WiFi router et about 5 devices, it is pas rare to see times like 5-10 seconds.

De plus to le actual acquisition of le DHCP lease depuis le DHCP server (which typically ne take très long), certains servers will premier ping le IP address c'est about to hand out avant it actually hands it out to verify that c'est pas déjà in use on le network - this takes a peu de seconds to time out. The client sometimes will do le même (again, to prevent IP address conflicts) qui will add certains more time. Then, on top of that, certains clients will aussi register leur DNS entries etc.
