There’s a lot of confusion sur le Internet, including on SuperUser, about guest comptes in Windows 10. I’ve posted this question afin de post an answer based sur mon research sur le subject.
I ne va pas accept my answer right away, but will wait a while to allow others to weigh in, and if quelqu’un posts a better answer, I’ll accept that.
The question is: What’s up avec guest comptes in Windows 10? Puis-je have one?

Edit re Windows 11: I’m changing over to a ordinateur avec Windows 11, so J’ai besoin de answer the same question again for that. Je n’ai pas repeated all the in-depth research, but ici’s what J’ai trouvé for Windows 11:

DOS command <code>net user</code> and Windows <code>Computer Management > System Tools > Local Users and Groups > Users</code> encore show the guest compte. In the latter, it encore has the property “Compte is désactivé”.

<code>Control Panel > User Accounts</code> no longer has <code>Manage Accounts</code>, so Je ne vois pas where to see anything about a guest compte in <code>Control Panel</code>.

<li>
The MS documentation <a href="https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/configuration/set-up-shared-or-guest-pc#guidance-for-accounts-on-shared-pcs">Guidance for accounts on shared PCs</a> a été updated to say it applies to Windows 11.

BUT the page no longer says “We recommend no local admin comptes sur le [shared] PC to improve the reliability and sécurité du PC.”

Parce que du last point above, Je ne sais pas what to think. The doc a été updated to apply to Windows 11, but the most crucial piece of official advice not to use a guest compte a été supprimé. Argh! So although it serait helpful to have a guest compte on this nouveau ordinateur, I’m going to continue to not have one.
If anyone knows any better about what’s going on with this in Windows 11, veuillez post a comment or answer about it.
The short answer:

The long answer:

That mode is a complex configuration intended for IT professionals to set up ordinateurs dedicated to shared use. Ce n’est pas suitable for a standalone ordinateur whose owner wants to allow occasional guest use. That’s parce que a standalone ordinateur needs to have a local administrator compte, and local administrator comptes ne sont pas recommended for ordinateurs set up for shared use, which is qu’est-ce que maintenant needed to have a properly configuré guest compte.
