TL;DR
When you initiate Windows Mises à jour within Windows XP, you are directed vers le Windows Mises à jour website. (Assuming you déjà have the ActiveX, Installer plug-in installé in your browser,) the website displays a green, scrolling status bar and appears to just hang for a few minutes. Pourquoi this step du mise à jour processus take such a long time to execute?
I'm not interested in speeding up the processus. Je viens de want to know what the updating logiciel is doing depuis c'est not l'installation logiciel and c'est not peaking CPU & réseau usage. What stalls the processus?
C'est un common task for many of us who work in any form of IT position using Windows. Eventually vous devez installer/re-installer a version of Windows and what follows is a very long OS updating processus.
For a long time J'ai accepted the fact that c'est a lent processus and that's all il y a to it. Il y a un lot to télécharger, and some mises à jour require restarts followed by further mises à jour... Ugh!
This morning I had to go through the processus of l'installation Windows XP avec SP3. I'm l'installation the OS on a VM on an SSD and J'ai été fonctionnel on this thing for over 6 hours.
Although il y a many ways to knit-pick this processus for improvements, il y a one step that is toujours particularly lent and I cannot figure out a good reason why.
That step is the mise à jour detection step on a manual mise à jour. Specifically, when navigating vers le Windows (or Microsoft) Mises à jour page, and ensuite clicking the 'Custom' bouton to detect your mises à jour. Il apparaît que your PC just sits there for a painful amount of time. Check your Gestionnaire des tâches and it looks like your PC is, in fact, locked parce que your CPU n'est pas cooking, so quelque chose has stalled. J'ai no clue what's going on or what would cause this?
Quel est le updating logiciel doing? Si le registry was being searched, ne devrait pas my CPU usage peak?
Does anybody know what's happening? Je peux loosely justify why some du steps dans le mise à jour processus take so long. Cependant, this one ne seem to have any reasoning.
UPDATE
Just to clarify, I started avec a Windows XP avec SP3 iso. Après the OS installé (which was en fait quite fast,) I started the mises à jour. My initial check found well over 100 critical mises à jour and, if mémoire serves me correctly, over 40 suggested mises à jour.
I had to do a redémarrer-and-mise à jour processus au moins 4 times yesterday. Again, I'm not looking for a justification du entire processus. À la place, when I navigate vers le mise à jour page (après the ActiveX component a été installé.) What takes the detection processus so long, especially depuis my CPU is barely being used, mémoire n'est pas peaking and my réseau traffic ne tend to spike du tout?
