STILL no fichier paths longer than 260 characters in Win Explorer, in 2023?

When I try to créez un subfolder in a dossier whose fichier chemin is déjà cca 260 characters, I get this message:

The fichier name(s) serait too long for the destination dossier. Vous pouvez shorten the fichier name and try again, or try a location that has a shorter chemin.

J'ai aussi have the problème avec Windows Explorer crashing when I try to open a location that exceeds 260 characters dans le chemin, which often happens par exemple while using Google Drive for Windows.

So, I googled the problème and found some tips.

J'ai tried the following:

Edited le registre: définissez le LongPathsEnabled parameter of REG_DWORD dans le registry clé HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ControlFileSystem avec a valeur 1.

It made no difference.

The answer to your question is: Malheureusement no.

It depends on Microsoft to add it, and jusqu'à présent they have not done so. The LongPathsEnabled registry and the Enable Win32 long paths Stratégie de groupe (which do the same thing) enables it sur le système (the Win32 API), but Windows Explorer ne support it.

(And given that they're planning to changez le Explorateur de fichiers in Windows 11 to a nouveau one which is a complete remake, I highly doubt any changes are coming vers le legacy one.)

Your seulement option serait to use an alternative Explorateur de fichiers that supports Long Paths. Examples are OneCommander, Total Commander, and 7-Zip. (A nicer option that seems to support it, and can act as a Windows Explorer replacement avec a similar layout, but n'est pas free, is the Files App.)
