In many cases the user does not understand what they are doing or how changing something like their standard template (normal.dot/dotx) will affect them.
I taught Word for some time and I was amazed at how many problems users had because they did not know the basics.
Word is often blamed for being crap when all Word is doing is what you ask it to do.
