If your network links are reliable then there is usually no need to have site DCs. It does depend on what you have running at the sites though.
In my world DCs are effectively single role appliances. They don’t host any other services and nobody logs on to them unless there is a problem.
If you are hosting DHCP, DNS or other services on that server this may be a different conversation.
